Jay-Z 2005
By the mid 00’s, there was no doubt that Jay-Z was laying the ground work to become the king of rap. When this came out he was riding high and by all accounts was on top of the world but little did he know that he would go on from here to earn a total of 22 Grammy Awards, the most by a rapper, and hold the record for the most number-one albums by a solo artist on the Billboard 200, with 14. On top of all that he would become a successful business man also, unlike most of his rap counterparts. In June 2019, Jay-Z officially became the first hip hop billionaire, making him the 5th wealthiest African-American and the wealthiest American musician (from Wikipedia).
Although I wouldn’t say I’m a huge rap fan, I do appreciate the music for the most part, and I especially have a lot of respect for Jay-Z and his creativity over the years. I got to see him perform live once and I was really impressed with his show and attention to the audience when I was actually expecting him to just run through his set and bail. He’s a class act and a great musician and I hope this artwork does him justice.
