Billy Joel 1983
I saw Billy Joel and Elton John play together on their duelling pianos tour back in 2002 in Philadelphia. I remember it being a great concert with all the hits for each of these guys but I got to admit that Elton stole the show. Elton just had the showmanship that only Elton can have. It was one of those feel-good shows that you knew every single song which is why that tour was so successful. Side note: It also happen to be the Winter Olympics and watching the Gold Medal hockey game with Canada vs USA in a Philly bar was something else. Being the only Canadians there, in all our Roots gear, cheering on our team for the win. Surprisingly, we walked out waving the Canadian flag in victory and made a lot of friends that day…so 100% Canadian.
Billy had a lot of hits in the 70/80’s starting with Piano Man and then just kept churning them out one after another. By 1983, when Innocent Man was released, he had many hits under his belt and marked the end of his multi-hit record streak with a few popping up in the 80’s. He went on to make a career out of touring those hits that everyone still loves to this day.
This was a commission request and we initially looked to do a RS cover like the rest but for all the supermodels Billy has had in his life, he is not very photogenic and none of the multiple covers he was on were good enough that you would want to look at it on your wall everyday. So we sourced out one of his classic albums and Innocent Man was the winner.
This cover is reimagined in acrylic, spray paint, pencil, and ink.
